Background: Children’s socialization is a complex and multidimensional process shaped by the interaction of biological-neurological, emotional, and relational factors, in which parents play a crucial role. However, many parents lack sufficient knowledge and skills to support this process, and comprehensive educational programs that address all these dimensions are limited. Therefore, designing a multidimensional educational package to train parents in the area of children’s socialization is essential.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to develop and validate a socialization training package for parents of preschool children.
Method: The research design was qualitative, focusing on development and validation. The parent training program for promoting socialization in preschool children was developed based on the theoretical framework of the Individual Developmental Relationship (DIR (approach. Theoretical foundations of emotional-cognitive mediation and mentalization were also used in designing the session content. An intervention mapping approach was employed to develop the content and structure of the educational sessions. The content validity of the educational program was evaluated and confirmed by experts.
Findings: The educational program was developed in 8 instructional sessions and 2 follow-up sessions. In addition to theoretical content, the sessions included parent-child play skills. The duration of the instructional sessions was set at 90 minutes, and the follow-up sessions at 60 minutes. Based on expert evaluations, the CVR values for all sessions were higher than 0.51, and the CVI values for all sessions were greater than 0.79, indicating a desirable level. According to the experts, all sessions were essential for the program and were aligned with the session objectives; therefore, the content validity of the educational package was confirmed.
Conclusion: Given the importance of socialization in shaping personality dimensions and its foundation in childhood, along with the significant role of parents in facilitating and shaping the socialization process, appropriate training based on integrated developmental dimensions can serve as an effective developmental and preventive intervention to promote children’s socialization and prevent future social problems and disorders.
