Designing an adequate parenting education package with a schema-therapy approach

Abstract

Parenting is one of the most important duties of parents that plays a very important role in shaping the personality of children and has long-term consequences. Adequate parenting is about protecting, supporting, balancing and satisfying the child's needs. The aim of this study is to design an adequate parenting education package with a schema-therapy approach. The present study is applied in terms of purpose. Data analysis was performed by guided qualitative content analysis. The community and the sample include all books and articles that were selected in order to get acquainted with the method and process of designing an adequate parenting education protocol with a schema-therapy approach and were the basis for information analysis. The basic training package was designed to include 7 components of adequate parenting, basic emotional needs, secure attachment, self-control, freedom to express healthy needs and emotions, self-motivation, and realistic expectations. Then, the validity of this educational package was examined using the opinions of fourteen expert professors in the field of research. The content and face validity of the training package with CVI and CVR criteria were 96/0 and 83/0, respectively, so it was found that this package has acceptable validity. Then, based on this, the final training package including the 7 mentioned components in the form of twenty-six sessions and each session including three parts of purpose, technique and task and for sixty minutes was compiled and presented. This package can help parents to have an adequate parenting style so that they can meet the basic emotional needs of their children.
